CASE STUDY: Stand Tall
Financial Skills, No Barriers
Developed in partnership with IHC, Stand Tall is a free browser-based life simulation that begins when players move into their very first flat with flatmates. From here, life gets messy in all the usual ways: unexpected bills arrive, the fridge needs filling, flatmates are bored and want to go out, and transport has to be covered. Players must juggle their budget to keep life running smoothly.

The Challenge
For neurodivergent young people, including those with Down Syndrome, Autism, and Asperger’s, financial independence can sometimes feel out of reach. Budgeting skills are rarely taught in ways that feel relevant, yet these skills are essential for living with confidence. IHC, New Zealand’s leading organisation supporting people with intellectual disabilities, wanted a new approach. They came to Geo AR Games with the challenge: how do you teach money management in a way that builds real-world skills without overwhelming players?

Over 70k players have benefited from Stand Tall across New Zealand schools, turning abstract budgeting concepts into something concrete and fun through relatable everyday situations and playful decision-making.
A safe space to learn from mistakes
By mixing lived experience with low-stakes decision-making, Stand Tall gives players a safe space to make mistakes and learn from them, without real-world consequences, helping build genuine confidence. Families and educators have praised the game for making financial literacy feel tangible.
Recognised for its impact
In April 2024, Stand Tall was named a finalist for the Best Hi-Tech Solution for the Public Good Award at the Hi-Tech Awards, a testament to its inclusive design and social value.
